Harvey Specter Brings Bad News

Editor’s note: The below recap contains spoilers for Suits LA Episode 8.It’s another day at the office in the present timeline of Suits LA, but it’s also the first day of the Pellegrini (Anthony Azizi) trial for New York Ted (Stephen Amell). As with everything so far with this case, Ted starts on the back foot and has to find a way to make sure that Pellegrini goes to prison to save his career and his family. Enter Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), who once again comes in clutch to help Ted in a moment of need.
In the present timeline, Erica (Lex Scott Davis) and Leah (Alice Lee) are both grieving personal tragedies. Instead of being on the same page, they are further apart than ever when the new head of Human Resources overhears Erica chewing Leah out for wanting to get out of a dinner with Adam Driver. It’s obvious that Erica has been spending way too much time with Ted to think that yelling at Leah like that is acceptable. Stuart (Josh McDermitt) also had his hands full with the David Bowie (still not that David Bowie) case. He recruits Rick (Bryan Greenberg) to help with studio connections in the hopes of getting a massive win for the firm’s criminal defense team. While Stuart and Rick try to save their Hollywood fixer, Amanda (Maggie Grace) agrees to help Ted build up the non-existent side of his own criminal defense team.
Erica Has a Bad Attitude in ‘Suits LA’ Episode 8
Erica has a very negative reaction when the head of Human Resources confronts her about her confrontation with Leah. That brings Rosalyn (Azita Ghanizada) into the fold. She isn’t about to allow Erica to disrespect another head of a department, but maybe someone should’ve also stuck up for Leah. The priorities at Ted’s firm are not straight.
Erica is eventually informed that Leah’s cat has died, and that was the reason the associate couldn’t attend the dinner with Adam Driver. Erica is initially compassionate until she discovers that Leah found out about her cat before Erica yelled at her. Ted also refused to take the dinner, so Erica is forced to go by herself and miss grieving a close family friend who was like a surrogate grandfather to her. She chews Leah out again and then goes to cry on her mom’s shoulder, but all of this could have been avoided if anyone at Black & Associates had decent communication skills.

The David Bowie Case Continues in ‘Suits LA’ Episode 8
Stuart and Rick team up to get confirmation that the woman accusing David Bowie of targeting her is a drug addict, and thus an unreliable witness. Stuart takes the evidence to the D.A. to get the charges against David dismissed and is informed they have a second victim who could testify to David’s pattern of intimidation. Stuart is ready to drop David as a client after the truth bomb, but David swears that he only intimidated people. He would never stoop to murder, and he has no idea who the second intimidation witness could be. Stuart believes his client and agreed to continue working the case …until he reads a news report that the potential second victim was dead. He is convinced that David Bowie had the whistleblower murdered, and he’s now stuck defending a very guilty man.
Harvey Specter Comes to the Rescue in ‘Suits LA’ Episode 8
The New York case gets away from Ted before he even starts. He has one of Pellegrini’s hitmen testify about the murders he was ordered to commit, but Pellegrini’s lawyers are able to refute his testimony by proving that Pellegrini was never in the country when the orders were given. With that testimony being discounted in front of the jury, Ted’s case for conspiracy to commit murder goes up in smoke.
The back-up plan is to shore up the racketeering charges. Ted and Kevin (Troy Winbush) manage to get a list of Pellegrini’s corporate partners, one of whom is represented by Harvey Spector. What a win for Ted! Ted convinces Harvey to hand over the financial records that he needs to ensure the RICO charges stick. The financial records and Ted putting his hitman witness back on the stand to confirm at least one of Pellegrini’s murder charges makes it seem like everything was in a good place.
However, we know that the Pellegrini trial eventually leads to Kevin being kicked out of the FBI, Eddie (Carson A. Egan) being murdered, and Ted leaving the U.S. Attorney’s office to represent A-list Hollywood actors on the West Coast. The end of the episode also brings Harvey to the present timeline, where he informs Ted that Pellegrini is getting out of prison, so they need to head back to New York to put him back in jail. According to Ted, he wouldn’t be getting out if Harvey “hadn’t done what he did,” so we need to know what that means as well. It has been fun seeing Harvey show up in the New York timeline, but getting to watch him and Ted work together in the present is going to be even better.
Suits LA continues Sundays at 9 PM on NBC. Episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
