A24 has acquired the new musical movie directed by Jesse Eisenberg.

Eisenberg is currently working on his follow-up to 2024’s A Real Pain. The untitled movie, which will be a musical, has now started production. A release date has not yet been set.

Who has joined the cast of Jesse Eisenberg’s musical movie?

Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), and Bernadette Peters (Annie) have all joined the cast of the movie, per Variety.

The cast also includes Julianne Moore, Paul Giamatti, Eisenberg, Bonnie Milligan, Colton Ryan, Lilli Cooper, and Maulik Pancholy.

The movie follows a “shy woman [Moore] who is unexpectedly cast in a community theater musical production, going to extremes as she loses herself in the role,” per the logline. Eisenberg wrote the original music and lyrics for the movie. Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting will produce, while Topic Studios will serve as executive producers.

Eisenberg made his feature film directorial debut in 2022 with When You Finish Saving the World. That movie is based on Eisenberg’s 2020 audio drama of the same name and stars Moore, Finn Wolfhard, Billy Bryk, and more.

A Real Pain then arrived in 2024. The movie saw Kieran Culking win Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards last month, while Eisenberg was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay. It is currently available to stream on Hulu.

“Mismatched cousins David and Benji tour Poland to honor their grandmother,” the synopsis reads. “Their adventure becomes complicated as old tensions resurface while exploring their family history.”

Additionally, Eisenberg will soon be seen reprising his role as J. Daniel “Danny” Atlas in Now You See Me 3, also known as Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Directed by Ruben Fleischer movie will be released in the United States theaters on November 14, 2025. It also stars Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and more.
