‘Kevin Costner’s The West’ Lassos Spring Release Date on The History Channel
Kevin Costner’s docuseries, The West, is officially premiering on the History Channel on May 26. 2025. The eight-episode show centers on the history of the American West and explores a century of historical events that led to the formation of the American identity. Each episode is an hour long and takes the viewers through the stories of iconic figures such as Lewis and Clark and other Native American tribes who defended their ancestral land. The show is hosted by Costner, who also serves as an executive producer alongside historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.
The West will make its debut on the network with back-to-back episodes followed by a special presentation of Episode 3 on May 27, 2025, before returning to its regularly scheduled programming on Mondays. In an exclusive History Channel trailer for the series, Costner asks: “What do we see when we think of the West,” before Goodwin steps in and calls it the “essence of the American dream.” Historian Ned Blackhawk also makes an appearance to talk about the American West being a place for wonder and possibility.
The trailer, set to a haunting rendition of “America the Beautiful,” contrasts the progress associated with the expansion of the West to its harsh reality with words such as “power and power shift,” “order and disorder,” “hope and despair,” flashing on the screen. In the clip, the show promises to shed light on lesser-known stories of the American West, including the role of pioneer women, the rise of cowboys, and even slavery. Toward the end of the trailer, Costner’s voice is heard saying:
“These stories will captivate us, and shock us,” while adding that it’s time for the world to come face to face with the real story of America’s wild past.
Kevin Costner’s ‘The Bodyguard’ Remake is Officially in the Works
Warner Bros. is working on a remake of the 1992 romantic thriller, The Bodyguard, starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The original film features Costner as former Secret Service agent Sam, who starts working as a bodyguard for R&B star Rachel Marron, played by Houston. Sam Wrench, best known for directing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, is set to helm the project with Jonathan A. Abrans as the writer. The cast for the upcoming remake has not been finalized yet.
The 1992 film grossed $411 million worldwide and earned Costner the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actor. The film was directed by Mick Jackson and written by Lawrence Kasdan, known for his work on Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.. The film received two Academy Award nominations for its unforgettable soundtrack, which became the best-selling album of all time, as well as the best-selling album by a female artist. The soundtrack featured iconic tracks like Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” and “Queen of the Night.” The Oscar-nominated tracks included “Run to You” and “I Have Nothing.”
Wrench is fresh off the success of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, which earned more than $261.7 million worldwide. On the other hand, Abrams made his feature screenwriting debut with the thriller drama Juror #2, which earned him critical acclaim and grossed $24.8 million in the U.S.
The West premieres on the History Channel on May 26. 2025 with back-to-back episodes.
