Two of the most popular comedies in recent years will cross paths again this summer. It has been confirmed that a special episode will bring Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia together one more time on July 9. The story will be aired on FXX with episodes available for streaming on Hulu the following day. The event will mark the second time the popular television comedies become a single world, after Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia touched base for the first time last year. The collaboration between the two shows will look different from what audiences witnessed the last time.

Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will feature the upcoming crossover, which will be told from the perspective of Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito). The series is also celebrating twenty years since its first episode was seen on television. The legacy of the program, created by Rob McElhenney, has featured countless talented guest stars, as well as plenty of growth for the characters audiences have come to know and love over the course of two decades.

Abbott Elementary is getting ready to bring its fourth season to a close. The television smash hit features Quinta Brunson portraying Janine Teagues. The young teacher is always trying to improve the lives of her students both inside and outside the classroom. The cast of Abbott Elementary also includes Tyler James Williams as Gregory and Janelle James as Ava. In just a short span of time, the show has managed to become a heavily-acclaimed pop culture juggernaut that has won multiple awards. Crossing paths with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is only one of the unbelievable things Quinta Brunson has achieved with her series.

The Return of Two Greats

The last time It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Abbott Elementary created a story together, the gang had to volunteer at the school by helping the staff. This time around, the gang will steal brownies from the children while setting them up to potentially audition for a boy band. These characters have always been unpredictable, but bringing them over to the world of Abbott Elementary just turns them into an unstoppable force. Abbott Elementary has already been renewed for a fifth season, but it remains to be seen when Janine will return to the screen after the crossover.

Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia cross paths again on July 9. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
