How To Solve The Boiler Room Puzzle In Blue Prince

As you travel through the mansion and unlock more rooms in Blue Prince, it’s only a matter of time before you come to the Boiler Room. Sure, many of Blue Prince‘s rooms are self-contained, sometimes simple puzzles that you can simply solve, claim the rewards for, and move on. But other rooms are a little more intricately interconnected, requiring you to draft several rooms in sequence and connect certain disparate details to one another. If you’re new to Blue Prince (and you haven’t been taking notes), these can be immensely confusing.

One such room is the Boiler Room. As its name implies, drafting this room allows you to generate power, which you can then funnel to a limited selection of other rooms. However, unlike the relatively simple Utility Closet, the Boiler Room has a couple of special requirements, including a sort of pipe maze puzzle you’ll have to solve before you activate it. Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide to turning on the Boiler Room, as well as a quick rundown of all the other rooms you can power once you’ve activated it.

How To Turn On The Power In The Boiler Room

Tank #1

The first thing you’ll notice when you enter the Boiler Room is that unlike many other rooms in the mansion, it has two floors. This guide will consistently reference the upper and lower floors of the Boiler Room, so do be mindful of where you’re standing.

We’ll start on the lower floor. Descend the stairs and look to your left, where you’ll see a large green tank. Simply approach this tank and turn the lever. You’ll begin to see steam pouring out of the pipes on the floor to let you know it’s flowing. Follow the pipe jutting out of the left side of the machine, and you’ll see a red, rotatable section of pipe on the ground just above a vent. Turn that pipe so it’s perpendicular to the tank you just turned on.

Tank #2

Follow the trail again to another rotatable pipe, this one connecting to six possible openings. Note the other tank in this downstairs area, and notice how the two moving panels in front of it react as you turn it. Turn the pipe until the panels stop moving and the valve is visible – this may take some trial and error. Head to pump number two and turn the valve.

All Trophies & Achievements In Blue Prince

Blue Prince will come with plenty of achievements and trophies when it is released, but if you know what they are, you can focus on getting them all.

Follow the steam coming out of the connected pipes, and turn the lever pictured above to the right to ensure steam is flowing horizontally. Follow the pipes again back to the first red pipe we turned, and rotate it so it’s parallel to the first tank. This will activate an elevator that we can take up to the final tank.

Tank #3

Now, the third pump is right in front of us when we get here, but we’re not ready to turn it on yet. Instead, walk forward to the lever on the far end of the catwalk and push it to raise the gate to your left. This will reveal a new path that’ll allow you to access this area even after the elevator is turned off, which we’ll have to do in order to complete the puzzle.

Return to the tank and rotate the valve, then turn the lever on its left pipe so it’s facing left. The third tank has now been activated, but the central console upstairs isn’t running yet. We’ll have to return downstairs to finish the puzzle.

Backtracking

Head back downstairs and rotate the first red pipe so it’s perpendicular to the first tank again. Flip the lever on the vertical pipe between the two lower floor tanks so it’s facing upwards. Rotate the second red pipe as pictured so it connects to the second vertical pipe alongside the boiler itself.

The boiler is now officially on, but the elevator is off. However, as long as you remembered to unlock the gate earlier, you can simply head up the stairs and walk across a new section of catwalk towards the central console. Press the “Activate” button, and the Boiler Room will hum to life.

Using The Boiler Room

The central console of the boiler room in Blue Prince.

Now, as you look at the central console, you’ll see that its controls consist of three arrows. Interacting with it allows you to decide which direction you want to divert power in, and allows you to select any of the connecting rooms. Of course, if you haven’t drafted anything yet, you’ll need a little bit of luck; not every room is compatible with the Boiler Room.

How To Start Each Run With Gems In Blue Prince

Blue Prince can be really tough to start every run over again with nothing, but there are ways to get permanent upgrades, including starting gems.

In order to be powered by the Boiler Room, a room must have ducts, and must either be directly adjacent to the Boiler Room, or be connected to it by a series of other rooms that also have ducts. A list of rooms with ducts is below; note that this list may be incomplete, as I likely haven’t discovered all possible room types yet.

  • Archives
  • Boiler Room
  • Darkroom
  • Laboratory
  • Locker Room
  • Passageway
  • Pump Room
  • Security Room

You can use the Boiler Room to power any of the above, which can help solve a variety of different puzzles. See our guide to unlocking the Orchard or opening the West Gate for more information on what you can do with the Boiler Room in Blue Prince.
