A Community movie rumor has been debunked by one of the sitcom’s stars following a fake tweet about one character’s status in the upcoming project. The upcoming Community movie is expected to see many stars from the series return, reuniting for another comedic escapade. However, an alleged post on X has been making the rounds seemingly made by Keith David, who portrayed recurring software programmer Elroy Patashnik, confirming he not be coming back for the film. However, this post turned out to be fabricated, with David having never posted something like that at all.

Speaking with The Direct, David reiterated that the post about Elroy not being part of the Community movie was false, stating he would return for the movie if given the opportunity. At the time of writing, the actor has yet to be approached about coming back, but said that, if he got the opportunity to return, he would do so. Check out what David had to say below:

Just to show you how rumors spread, and lies, I never said anything like that, when asked about whether I would return to ‘Community,’ of course! When asked, I will. And I’ve been told, y’know, I will be invited to the party. However, it has not fruitioned yet. And, of course, I would be there.

It has not yet come up. When it has come up… as I understand it, it can be a matter of schedules. There’s a lot of people to juggle around. It’s been a few years since we’ve done it, so, y’know, we’ll see. But let me dispel any rumor that I would not do it. Of course I would.

Will His Character Make A Comeback In The Film?

It’s unclear when the cast of Community will be reuniting the film the upcoming movie. As David mentioned, scheduling is an important part of whether everything can come together properly. The actor himself has quite a busy schedule ahead, such as portraying O.G. in the upcoming animated film Sneaks, and appearing in the upcoming action comedy Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice. He’ll also be reprising his role as Husk in Hazbin Hotel season 2, while making appearances in upcoming series Duster and The Sensitive Kind. But it’s clear he’d make room for the movie if the opportunity arises.

Long after the final season of Community, stars Joel McHale and Ken Jeong guest-starred in each other’s sitcoms: Dr. Ken and Animal Control.

Given how interested he would be in coming back for the movie, it sounds like he could perfectly fit in with the rest of the returning cast if scheduling aligns. Right now, that hurdle appears to be the biggest in continuing the story, with Donald Glover speculating a 2025 filming start that has yet to be confirmed. If David did come back as Elroy, then he could be involved in resolving Community‘s dangling plot threads while also being part of the new story the upcoming film is going to be exploring.

The Film Wouldn’t Be Complete Without Elroy

Given David’s interest in being part of the movie, it would make sense for him to keep contributing comedic moments to the film as Elroy. He was given a recurring role in season 6, meaning he wasn’t around for very long in contrast to other characters. However, his role in the final season established him as an important part of the cast, making it reasonable to assume the Community movie would also see him come back into the fold with everyone else.

The Community movie will be streaming on Peacock when it arrives in the future.
