Switch 2 Doesn’t Support Cloud Saves For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
The Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom doesn’t support cloud saves, something that is available in the original Switch version.
Tears of the Kingdom official store page says, “Please note: this software does not support the paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” While reports state that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also doesn’t support cloud saves on Switch 2, its store page doesn’t have the same disclaimer.
To add more confusion, this disclaimer apparently only appears on the US and EU store pages of Tears of the Kingdom. The Japanese page seemingly says that the save data storage feature requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
People have also discovered that the Switch 2 version of Super Mario Party Jamboree also doesn’t support cloud saves, while Switch 2 versions of Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond still do.
This is confusing because players can import their Zelda saves from the first Switch to Switch 2. But from that point forward, they can no longer create new cloud saves if they continue to play the Switch 2 version.
The Switch 2 versions of both Zelda games come with some new upgraded features, such as the Zelda Notes app, which lets players locate undiscovered shrines and Korok Seeds, as well as earn in-game achievements.
Nintendo also stated that players will still be able to play their original Switch versions of games even after upgrading to the Switch 2 version, although features and content in the latter can only be played on Switch 2. However, with some Switch 2 versions not supporting cloud saves, it’s unclear how gameplay progress will be carried back to the original Switch.
