Clueless TV Show in the Works, Alicia Silverstone’s Status Revealed

A Clueless TV show is officially in the works.
Clueless was released in 1995 by Paramount Pictures. Written and directed by Amy Heckerling, the Alicia Silverstone-starring movie is a loose adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma. The movie made $88 million at the time of its release and, since then, has developed an even larger cult following.
What do we know about the Clueless TV show?
Per Deadline, a Clueless TV show is now being developed for Peacock. The show will be written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, while Heckerling and Robert Lawrence will also executive produce.
Silverstone will reprise his iconic role as Cher Horowitz in the show, though it’s unclear if she will be the main character as plot details remain under wraps at this time. No other casting has been announced. The show is a CBS Studios project in association with Universal Television.
“Shallow, rich, and socially successful Cher (Silverstone) is at the top of her Beverly Hills high school’s pecking scale,” a description of the 1995 movie reads. “Seeing herself as a matchmaker, Cher first coaxes two teachers into dating each other. Emboldened by her success, she decides to give hopelessly klutzy new student Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. When Tai becomes more popular than she is, Cher realizes that her disapproving ex-stepbrother (Paul Rudd) was right about how misguided she was — and falls for him.”
A Clueless spin-off television show premiered on ABC in September 1996. It ran for three seasons and continued to follow the adventures of Cher; although, Silverstone did not reprise her role and the character was instead played by Rachel Blanchard.
A reboot centered around Stacey Dash’s character, Dionne, was also in the works for a time, though the project didn’t come to fruition.
A premiere date for the new Clueless show has not yet been announced by Peacock. The movie, meanwhile, is currently available to rent or purchase on digital streaming services such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
