The Pacific Rim television show is moving forward.

The Pacific Rim franchise began with a 2013 movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. That was followed by a 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, that was directed by Steven S. DeKnight, along with a Netflix anime series, Pacific Rim: The Black, that premiered in 2021 and ran for two seasons.

It was announced last year that Eric Heisserer and Carmen Lewis’ Chronology production banner had begun to develop a live-action Pacific Rim origin story television show for Legendary. There’s been little news about the project since then, up until now.

What is the latest update on the Pacific Rim show?

Per Variety, the Pacific Rim show is now officially in development at Prime Video following a deal that was made between Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios.

Plot details for the show remain under wraps at this time, apart from it being a prequel to the films. No casting has yet been announced. Heisserer will serve as a writer and executive producer for the show under the Chronology banner.

Variety also reports that “there is still the potential for new films in the [Pacific Rim] franchise as well.” Nothing has been officially announced at this time, meaning it’s unclear if any of the cast from the first two movies could return.

“Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself,” Legendary Television’s Jason Clodfelter said when the Pacific Rim prequel project was first announced. “We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular Pacific Rim universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise.”

A premiere date for the Pacific Rim prequel show has not yet been set by Amazon Prime Video.
