Elvis Presley and Wink Martindale’s close friendship started a while back, but fans remember the latter as one of Presley’s first interviewers in his early days of fame. The King of Rock and Roll appeared on Martindale’s show Teenage Dance Party on June 16, 1956, to promote his July 4 charity show at Russwood Park in Memphis. Reportedly, it was the first of two television interviews Elvis did with Wink Martindale.

Wink Martindale and Sandy Ferra tied the knot in 1975, three years after the former’s divorce from Madelyn Leech was finalized. The duo first met at the Gene Autry Hotel in Palm Springs in 1970. Martindale had called the fateful day of their first meeting one of the “top days” of his life in a Facebook post.

Martindale’s marital bliss with Ferra lasted over 49 years. The duo seemed happily in love, and the Gambit star occasionally wrote tributes for his second wife on social media. For the duo’s 41st anniversary, Martindale wrote a lengthy message for his wife on Facebook. The CBS TV host gushed, “Today is very special to me. In fact, EVERY August 2nd is very special to me! Today marks our 41st wedding anniversary at Arcadia Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Jack Longley.”

Recalling the magical day of the duo’s nuptials, Martindale added, “Our wedding party followed at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel. The next day, we left on a Caribbean Cruise… during which we met some friends who remain close to us to this day.”

He also revealed how the duo kept their vows and continued the celebrations even after all the decades of their marriage. Martindale added, “Interestingly, that first August 2nd, 1975, we vowed to, in some way, celebrate the 2nd of each and every month. If only to say, ‘Happy Anniversary’ to each other. We’ve kept that vow. No question.”
