The Author Who Wrote One Of The Best Children’s Classics Of The 1990s Is Publishing A Fantasy Book In 2025 & It Sounds Amazing
Louis Sachar, who is best known for writing Holes, just announced that he is writing an adult fantasy novel, and it looks like a project that readers will not want to miss. Many audiences may remember reading the 90s classic, Holes, back in their school days, or perhaps watching the 2003 movie adaptation starring Shia LaBeouf. It follows Stanley, a young boy who is wrongfully sent to a boy’s detention center where he and other inmates are forced to dig five-foot holes every day. However, Stanley soon realizes that these holes may not be useless as he originally thought.
Holes was far from Sachar’s first children’s novel, and it was not his last. Sachar ended up writing two more books related to Holes before moving onto other projects such as The Cardturner. His most recent books include 2015’s Fuzzy Mud and 2020’s Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Doom, which is a continuation of his Wayside School series, which he began in 1978. All of that is to say that Sachar has had a unique career that is coming up on an unexpected release in 2025.

Sachar Has Never Written Fantasy Before
More than 20 years after writing Holes, Sachar is publishing his first adult fantasy novel in 2025. Titled The Magician of Tiger Castle, it follows Princess Tullia, a young woman who is tasked with saving her struggling kingdom by entering a marriage with an unlikable prince. Hesitant to follow through, Tullia ends up falling in love with another. Because of this, her father enlists the kingdom’s disreputable magician, Anatole, to cast a spell to make the marriage happen. Anatole can either save his kingdom (and his reputation) or help the princess escape her terrible fate.

Like Holes, The Magician of Tiger Castle will probably have several interweaving storylines, important relationship dynamics, and characters who are as funny as they are heroic.
All in all, readers can expect to pick up The Magician of Tiger Castle on its publication day, August 5, 2025. This will be Sachar’s first publication in five years.
