Sally Hawkins Watches a New Resurrection in Twisty ‘Bring Her Back’ Trailer

Today, while parts of the world are celebrating the miraculous resurrection of a certain someone, A24 and directors Michael and Danny Philippou are giving non-believers something to feast their eyes on. Okay, so maybe it isn’t the same story, but the studio and brotherly duo have released a brand-new trailer for Bring Her Back, which — when using a Venn diagram — technically does have some crossover action with Easter. The title serves as the pair’s follow-up to the 2023 horror movie, Talk to Me, which became a sweeping success for the siblings who, prior to feature-length projects, had carved out a name for themselves on YouTube. Today’s trailer features a much closer look at two-time Academy Award nominee, Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), and rising star, Jonah Wren Phillips, as a foster mother and son bent on blurring the lines between our realm and the afterlife.
It’s hard to say what Laura’s (Hawkins) endgame is at the beginning of today’s teaser. She can be seen trying to deliver a message of peace and hopefulness to her two new foster kids (Billy Barratt, Sora Wong), while at the funeral service. But, on the other hand, she can also be seen sneaking up to the casket and snipping off a piece of hair from the deceased for what we’ll come to find to be a nefarious reason — so her true intentions are pretty up in the air. When the two siblings move into their new home, they meet Oliver (Phillips), who their foster mother refers to as “an angel.” The rest of the trailer foreshadows a terrifying trip into a reality beyond our own, with Oliver serving as the vessel and Laura as the twisted captain.
Who Is Behind ‘Bring Her Back’?
As mentioned, Bring Her Back is the sophomore feature-length production to come from the Philippou brothers. The pair previously struck gold with their film, Talk to Me, which took the world by storm when it crossed over into cinemas back in 2023. With a 94% critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is still bringing in first-time watchers to see Sophie Wilde’s incredible leading performance.
The movie also sees the pair of filmmakers reteam with A24, as the indie studio previously backed Talk to Me. Considering what a standout hit the original film remains to be, it’s not a shock that the studio wanted to jump on another chance to work with the talented siblings. In addition to Bring Her Back, A24 also has a slew of highly anticipated titles on the way, including Eddington, Materialists, and The Smashing Machine.
