IYO SKY Retains Women’s Championship in an Instant WrestleMania Classic

In tonight’s hard-hitting WrestleMania 41 opener, IYO Sky retained the WWE Women’s Championship in a triple-threat match, defeating Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair in one of the best matches of the entire weekend. The crowd favorite since her championship reign began, SKY scored the pin on Belair, and had her long-overdue WrestleMania moment.
Chants of “This is awesome” were echoed throughout Allegiant Stadium multiple times in this technically impressive and skilled match, one that featured three of the best professional wrestlers in the business. High-flying dropkicks, super-close near falls, and destructive violence accentuated this match, built on a story that saw Ripley force her way into the match, one that Belair had rightfully earned.
Our Take On The Opening Match Of WrestleMania 41, Night 2
Setting The Tone Properly With An Instant Classic
This match set the tone and tenor for Night 2, pitting three equally worthy opponents against one another, and three outcomes that would have made sense regardless of who actually scored the pin. Ripley attempted to hit Belair with a Riptide until Belair broke free and whipped her across her stomach, catching her with a KOD and scoring a two count until SKY caught them both with a moonsault and pinned Belair to retain.
It seems virtually impossible to be able to top this match, and the capacity crowd was intense, loud, and focused throughout its duration. WWE scored a massive win with its opener, and if the rest of Night 2 is anything like that opener, we’re all in for a real fun ride tonight.
