Ted and Harvey Team Up To Take an Old Enemy Down

Editor’s note: The below recap contains spoilers for Suits LA Episode 9.
The Pellegrini (Anthony Azizi) situation is front and center in the latest episode of Suits LA as Ted (Stephen Amell) and Harvey (Gabriel Macht) team up in the present day to put the mobster back behind bars. The collaboration is surprising, considering that the New York flashbacks reveal that Harvey put a major dent in Ted’s case before Pellegrini was sentenced the first time.
While Ted and Harvey go to New York to handle Pellegrini, Stuart (Josh McDermitt) is in Los Angeles, grappling with his conscience as he tries to figure out whether his Hollywood fixer client David Bowie (nope, still not over the name) is a murderer. Luckily, he has Rick (Bryan Greenberg) to help him from completely spiraling and get the case back on track. It seems that Stuart’s David Bowie (Maury Sterling) case will be the next centerpiece for Suits LA as Ted finally puts the Pellegrini case behind him in this episode. We’ll have to see how all of that unfolds and if the season finale will reveal any more about Ted’s final days in New York.
Ted and Harvey Return to New York in ‘Suits LA’ Episode 9
Obviously, if Ted and Harvey work together, then line crossing and playing in the gray area of the law should be expected. It’s okay to be even more concerned when Harvey straight out says they won’t be abiding by the rules to make sure Pellegrini rots in prison. Harvey and Ted’s first stop is to meet Pellegrini as he comes out of jail. They tell him that many of his former crew members are ready to turn on him so they can stay in power. Pellegrini doesn’t immediately take the bait and only taunts Ted and Harvey, saying that he’s going to live a beautiful life outside of prison. The duo is still confident enough in their plan to go to Kevin (Troy Winbush) and ask for information about Pellegrini’s current organization. He sends them looking for a man named Santoro, who has climbed to No. 2 while Pellegrini is in prison and is the most likely to confirm that Pellegrini had Eddie (Carson A. Egan) murdered.
It turns out that Santoro (Alexander Bertrand) was the man who actually killed Eddie, but Ted wants the man who gave the order. He corners Santoro at a local pizza shop and claims the Justice Department has given him the authority to give Santoro immunity if he flips on Pellegrini. Santoro is a smarter cookie than most people on this show because he quickly surmises that the Justice Department would never have asked Ted, a disgraced former federal prosecutor, to offer such a deal. He declines to talk, even after Ted threatens to send pictures of the two of them directly to Pellegrini.
On the fun side of things, this episode reveals that Harvey and Donna (Sarah Rafferty) have a son who apparently is young enough to still call Harvey daddy but old enough to have his own phone/contact number in Harvey’s phone. The important thing is that Harvey has him saved as “My boy” in his phone, and we love that development. What we did not love was Pellegrini showing up where Ted and Harvey were getting drinks, but apparently, that’s all part of Ted’s master plan. He alleges that he had the FBI waiting for Pellegrini to pull anything, but the two need to talk. Pellegrini admits that he was furious when Santoro killed Eddie instead of Ted, but it worked out for the better because Ted’s death wouldn’t have been satisfying revenge. Apparently, this super-smart mobster didn’t think to have Ted checked for a wire before inviting him into the car. Ted records the entire conversation, which includes Pellegrini admitting he gave the order to kill Eddie.

The series struggled at first.
They still need Santoro’s testimony, though, so Ted and Harvey go back to the capo to try and strong-arm him again into testifying against Pellegrini. This time, they do have a legitimate offer of immunity to offer if he agrees to their terms. Santoro is still hesitant, even as Ted reminds him that Pellegrini will kill him if he has any suspicion that Santoro will take the deal. Santoro doesn’t have long to consider his options because a car bomb meant for him goes off as he approaches it, leaving Ted and Harvey slack-jawed on the sidewalk.
Luckily, the car bomb isn’t fatal — because Kevin had planted it to convince Santoro to join their side. It’s successful, but Harvey doesn’t actually have the immunity deal they’ve promised him so Ted has to go crawling back to his old boss to make the entire deal work. Ted is able to convince the federal prosecutor to take the case, ensuring that Pellegrini would be put away. Meanwhile, Ted visits Santoro in the hospital and threatens to send Pellegrini’s men to wherever he is stationed in witness protection so that Santoro will forever be paranoid. That’s Ted’s revenge for the man who actually killed his brother.
Stuart Ends Up With a Murder Trial in ‘Suits LA’ Episode 9
Stuart doesn’t have long to live in denial about his client, as the ADA (Assaf Cohen) arrives at the firm to confirm that the woman killed in a seemingly random carjacking the night before was the second whistleblower — and that the distinct attorney’s office is now pursuing a murder investigation against David Bowie (Maury Sterling). If Stuart doesn’t help, he’ll be the one responsible for that woman’s death. Stuart doesn’t turn on his client, but he does immediately confront David about his whereabouts after Stuart informs him about a second whistleblower. David swears he didn’t commit the murder because he was busy breaking into producer Craig Fisher’s house at the time.
The alibi isn’t perfect, but it’s what Stuart needs to soothe his conscience. The problem is that Craig Fisher was Erica’s (Lex Scott Davis) client, and that requires asking Rick to trade in a favor so Stuart can sleep at night. Erica agrees to help out, but first, she needs Stuart to return something he stole from her when she was a young associate. Erica hands over the footage, and Stuart gives back the sculpture her mother had made for her. Even though Stuart has an alibi for his client, Isaac still has David Bowie arrested for murder, which means this case will be going to trial. On the bright side, we get some delightful banter from Erica and Rick about a potential sex tape. Clearly, their day is going much better than Stuart’s.
