‘The Pitt’s Noah Wyle Recalls His ’Friends’ Cameo With ‘ER’ Co-Star George Clooney

Noah Wyle has dished on a major ER moment that didn’t even take place on the show. The first season of Friends aired in 1994 and ran until May 18, 1995, but the show featured a couple of ground-shattering cameos in one episode that had everyone talking. In the second part of the only two-part outing in Season 1, titled “The One With Two Parts, Part 2,” Wyle shows up with his ER co-star George Clooney to visit Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Monica (Courteney Cox) in the hospital. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wyle spoke about this cameo with his ER co-star – mind you, they technically don’t play the same characters in Friends as they do in ER – and how they decided it was the right decision for them to show up:
“It was all very social and collegiate. We all auditioned for the same stuff. And then we got on these shows that were on the same network, same night, same studio, same lot. And we sold them together and then we would go over and watch them tape, and then it just seemed like the lowest hanging fruit to cross-pollinate for the network to have us be on their show. But it seemed totally natural because we were all hanging out anyway. I go back and I’ve seen those clips now and I just can’t believe what a baby face I have – I look more like my 19-year-old daughter than I do now. It’s crazy. I remember thinking it was almost like a gas that we were doing it. It was just doing a walk-on. I didn’t think it had any pressure or attendant pageantry. That’s how naive I was,” he added. “I’m sure at all the levels above us, they were just thrilled at this like, ‘We’re taking the guys from the ER! We’re putting them on Friends!’”
Wyle’s new medical drama, The Pitt, has been the biggest show of the year thus far, and although it may lose that title to The Last of Us, it’s still proven that Max was right to take a chance on its first original medical drama. Wyle returns to screens as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, or Dr. Robby, in the show, which marks his first time putting on scrubs since the final season of ER. The Pitt was created for TV by R. Scott Gemmill, and both he and Wyle have expressed interest in sticking around for whatever the long-term future of the show is. The Pitt has already been confirmed for a second season, which will feature a time jump to Fourth of July weekend, and it’s expected to premiere on Max early next year.
What Was Noah Wyle in Before ‘The Pitt’?
Before starring in The Pitt, Wyle also featured in At the Gates, the mystery thriller from Augustus Meleo Bernstein that’s currently streaming on Tubi. He can also be seen playing Harry Wilson across from Aldis Hodge in Leverage: Redemption, the heist crime series streaming on Prime Video. Wyle even starred in the controversial drama Shot in 2017, which follows a couple on the edge of divorce whose lives are changed when a distressed teenager’s illegal gun goes off. Wyle is also known for his roles in A Few Good Men, Donnie Darko, and The Librarian III: The Curse of the Judas Chalice.
All episodes of The Pitt Season 1 are now streaming. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the film and watch The Pitt on Max.
