Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Might Not Be Where We See Shadow Next

A new report from TheWrap has shed some light on the future of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, as well as where fans might see Shadow the Hedgehog appear next.
What’s the latest information on where Shadow might appear?
In a new report from TheWrap about the state of movie adaptations of video games as a whole, the Sonic franchise is mentioned. According to the report, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is already penciled in for a 2027 release date at Paramount Pictures. While a fourth film in the series is not a surprise, another note in the report shines some light on other films.
According to TheWrap, Paramount Pictures is also beginning to eye spin-off films based around the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. While no specifics were discussed, fans have long been theorizing that a Shadow the Hedgehog spin-off movie could be on the horizon. This is due to the post-credits scene to Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
After Shadow (played by Keanu Reeves in the movie) and Ivo Robotnik seemingly sacrifice themselves to save Earth from a cannon beam, Shadow is shown to have survived the destruction of the cannon. Meanwhile, Sonic ends up in New York and stumbles upon a group of Metal Sonic robots and Amy Rose.
Fans were quick to speculate that this could mean that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is centered around Metal Sonic and Amy, while Shadow is free to appear in his own projects.
While a spin-off movie would be new to the Sonic movie franchise, the universe of Sonic has already been branched off. A television series based on Knuckles the Echidna (titled Knuckles) premiered on Paramount+ in 2024, and starred Idris Elba.
