The puzzle for today’s Connections comes with words that are much briefer than phrases you may have seen before. This adds a new layer of challenge, even for veterans who have seen a variety of word combinations in the past. I found this to be one of the tougher puzzles presented by this game, but with the right clues, you can find the right solution.

Just like any Connections puzzle, you only have four chances to make a mistake while pairing four groups of four words together. You have fewer chances to find the right answer compared to the daily Wordle puzzle, but there are far more context clues you can follow. As long as you recognize the right patterns, you shouldn’t have a hard time figuring out the categories behind each Connections group.

The theme of today’s puzzle might be descriptors for other words, names, or colors, giving you a selection of short, straightforward phrases. Due to the nature of these words, I struggled to find what categories they fit into, as each one could be a noun or an adjective depending on how it was meant to be used. That being said, the solution was much easier to find once I understood that today’s puzzle had words meant to be used alongside others.

If you’re also having a hard time figuring out today’s puzzle, follow these helpful clues to start getting an idea about each category:

  • One category is about things used to describe terms related to colors.
  • One category is about things used to describe terms related to a specific type of land formation.
  • One category is about things that are the last names of people with the same first name.
  • One category is about things that you would say to describe colors without saying the word “color” itself.

Yellow Answers: Revealed & Explained

TINT

COLOR

HUE

SHADE

TONE

This was the easiest part of the puzzle for me, as COLOR already had me thinking about concepts related to it. A color’s SHADE, HUE, and TONE are all descriptors used to define how it differs from other palettes one might use in a painting or other pieces of art. This natural relationship between all four words in this category made them naturally fit together for the right answer.

VALLEY

DALE

DELL

GLEN

HOLLOW

At first, I thought DALE and GLEN fit together already due to them being characters in The Walking Dead TV and comic series. I didn’t realize they held a different meaning until I was searching for a group for HOLLOW. While looking up definitions, I saw that HOLLOW was a term used to describe a valley landscape, which made me go back and realize that GLEN was used similarly with DALE and GLEN.

ROSS

Considering the theme of colors in other categories, Bob ROSS was already on my mind going into this section of today’s puzzle. Since MARLEY stands for Bob Marley and HOPE represents Bob Hope, it was easy to follow the same convention to find references to other famous Bobs. With Bob DOLE as the final piece, this part of the puzzle wasn’t too hard to figure out.

COLOR ANAGRAMS

DRE

GARY

GENRE

LUBE

This part of the puzzle didn’t make much sense to me at first, as I was not aware words like GENRE or GARY could be used as color anagrams. That being said, I was curious to see what definitions GARY had outside of being used as a name. From previous categories debunking names as their own section, I was able to discover that DRE, GENRE, and even LUBE were all related to colors, and add GARY within the same context.
