Before Homelander, Antony Starr Led This 4-Season Crime Show Every The Boys Fan Should Watch

Before he was Homelander on The Boys, Antony Starr led this great 4-season crime show that fans of the former must watch. Though the updates on The Boys season 5 we have gotten so far are exciting, not much has been revealed about the final season of the series. Even so, it is difficult to imagine the show not sticking the landing after four amazing seasons of The Boys.
The Boys‘ final is expected to come out in 2026, which means that audiences who love the show might need another series to ease the wait. Fortunately, 2013’s Banshe is a great choice because it not only includes Antony Starr, but also because his performance is something that will intrigue fans of The Boys.
Banshee Is An Action-Packed Crime Thriller Starring Antony Starr
Banshee Is Streaming On Max, Hulu, And Amazon Prime
The action and mystery of Banshee is perfect for fans of The Boys, especially as Antony Starr plays a very separate character from Homelander. Banshee tells the story of the man known as Lucas Hood, played by Starr, a master thief who impersonates the incoming sheriff of the fictional town of Banshee after the real one is killed. Hood took his place to find his accomplice in the diamond heist that landed him fifteen years in prison, as the mob boss whom he cheated closes in, and new problems within the town arise.

The Boys’ Antony Starr stars in an action movie alongside Viola Davis and Anthony Anderson where he once again takes on the role of a villain.
Banshee‘s plotlines often match up to some of the best twists on The Boys as each character tries to hide their intentions while also discovering what others are planning as they attempt to maintain order in the town. While it did get mixed reviews upon initial release, Banshee has some very strong moments as it navigates its themes of grief and identity. Starr’s performance as Hood truly drives that home, highlighting his strengths as an actor outside of The Boys.
Antony Starr’s Homelander Performance Is Amazing, But He Is Great In Banshee Too
Hood And Homelander’s Dispositions Differ Greatly, Highlighting Starr’s Skill
Starr’s performance as Homelander in The Boys is incredibly well done, but his performance in Banshee should not be overlooked. Antony Starr’s character in Banshee is unafraid of being violent and taking risks, but he is also a kind and caring individual who takes his job seriously, becoming the first sheriff of Banshee to not take bribes from local crime bosses. He is also practical and at times analytical, using his expertise as a criminal to solve crimes through unorthodox methods.
Ironically enough, Banshee‘s Hood has a stronger sense of self than Homelander, whose ego and self-importance hide someone who has no idea who he is outside of the identity Vought gave him. Starr plays these two parallel characters convincingly and powerfully, adding small nuances to each that pull audiences in no matter how violent the story gets.
