Dev Patel to Direct, Star in Action Movie The Peasant

Dev Patel is set to direct, star in, and write an upcoming period action thriller called The Peasant, according to a new report from THR.
What is The Peasant about?
The Peasant will see Patel step behind the camera once again following his directorial debut in 2024’s Monkey Man. According to THR’s report, Patel will once again work with production house Thunder Road, which also produced Monkey Man.
The movie is being described as having elements of Braveheart and John Wick, and will reportedly mash up the world of Medieval knights and feudal India.
“Set in the 1300s, it centers on a shepherd who embarks on a rage-fueled campaign against a group of mercenary knights who ransacked his community, revealing himself to be more than he seems,” reads the film’s logline.
The project was first reportedly developed with Will Dunn (Ms. Marvel), although nothing came of the project. After Patel joined on, the setting for the movie was changed from an Italian setting and featuring the Pope, to something based around India instead.
Following Patel’s turn in Monkey Man, his next project will see him star in the psychological horror film Rabbit Trap. That film recently had its premiered at Sundance Film Festival, and follows the life of a married couple disturbing a fairy ring and dealing with its aftermath.
