Clown in a Cornfield Star on Why His X-Men Villain Wasn’t in Deadpool & Wolverine

“The word that I heard was just that it was a very time-consuming character,” Kevin Durand said in an exclusive interview with ComicBookMovie.com. He explained, “It would take seven and a half hours to get fully into the makeup and the layers of costuming and whatnot.”
Durand originally portrayed Blob in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the Marvel Studios film, Mike Waters played the character in a brief, non-speaking appearance. Reflecting on his earlier role, Durand shared, “Hugh Jackman kept saying to me while we were shooting that scene in the ring, ‘Oh my God, they’re gonna go crazy for this character. Get used to doing this makeup process.’ It never came back around.”
Durand noted he would be open to reprising Blob in the future. “Hopefully, someone in that universe brings him back because he’s a terrific character. I would love to get under all those layers to explore Freddy Dukes again.”
Durand previously played Floronic Man in DC Universe’s Swamp Thing series, but DC canceled the show after one season. “They cut us off way too early with that,” he said. “There’s always crazy levels of bureaucracy that change and fluctuate… unfortunately, they ended a really great thing way too soon with that one.”
Durand stars in Clown in a Cornfield, releasing May 9 in theaters. The film follows Quinn and her father as they move to Kettle Springs for a fresh start. There, they encounter a masked killer named Frendo who targets the frightened townspeople.
